Why do I need to use contraceptives?

Answer:

Unless you want to get pregnant you should use contraception when having sex. Condoms can also prevent you from catching or passing on a sexually transmitted infection.

Myth: Women are only fertile one day a month, so can’t get pregnant on all the other days
Truth:

The woman releases an egg (ovulation) one day a month, however the window for getting pregnant is around 6 days. Also sperm can live in the vagina for up to 3 days, so having sex before this 6 day period can still lead to pregnancy. On top of this, it is hard to predict 100% accurately when you have ovulated.

Had unprotected sex?

If you have had unprotected sex this puts you at risk of catching a sexually transmitted infection.
